On August 24, 2021, at approximately 03:06 a.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a possible fire in the area of the 1100 block of Kern Place and dispatched a structure fire response. While responding, several fire units reported a large glow from a distance. Due to the potential for the fire to spread and the threat to life and property a working fire upgrade was requested. The first arriving engine reported a single story, single family residence with a large amount of fire in the garage and spreading to vehicles in the driveway.

Two residents and a family dog were alerted by the functioning smoke alarms and promptly exited the home. Aggressive action by the firefighters contained and controlled the fire in approximately 20 minutes. The home sustained extensive fire damage throughout the dwelling. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. In all 4 fire engines, 1 truck company, 2 rescue ambulance and 2 Battalion Chiefs responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
