On August 17, 2022 at approximately 8:37 a.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports from neighbors that a home on Firestone Drive was on fire. Neighbors also reported that the resident was not in the house. When the first fire engine arrived, light smoke was visible, however, the fire quickly spread from the kitchen into the attic and then through out the house.

Incident command was established, and a working fire upgrade and second alarm were requested. Firefighters contained the fire in approximately 14 minutes, preventing damage to the neighboring houses and limiting damage to the involved structure. Significant overhaul work was required to ensure the fire was completely extinguished in the attic and roofing material.

The lone resident at the home was treated at scene and transported to the hospital as a precaution with minor smoke inhalation. There were no injuries to firefighters. In all, twenty-seven firefighters and one fire prevention specialist responded to the fire. Escondido Police provided secured the scene and provided traffic control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Safety Message: Functioning fire alarms and carbon monoxide monitors play an important safety role in providing ample time for evacuation.
